After a week of intense intellectual challenges, cultural exchange, and new friendships, the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026) celebrated its official Closing Ceremony at the Neomundo Convention Center. The event brought together international students, delegation leaders, and organizers to honor the hard work, dedication, and scientific passion demonstrated by all participants throughout the competition.
The ceremony marked the successful conclusion of a historic week for Colombia as the host nation. With the distribution of medals and certificates completed, the international delegations bid an emotional farewell to Bucaramanga, carrying home unforgettable memories of academic excellence and Colombian hospitality.

The 56th International Physics Olympiad Officially Begins in Bucaramanga
The global scientific community officially gathered at the Neomundo Convention Center for the grand Opening Ceremony of the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026). Organized by the Antonio Nariño University, this historic edition brings together more than 400 of the world’s brightest young physicists representing over 90 countries, marking the very first time Colombia hosts this prestigious global competition.
The ceremony offered a spectacular showcase of Colombian culture, welcoming international students, delegation leaders, and scientific observers with vibrant music and traditional performances from the Santander region. Following the institutional remarks, the competition was officially declared open, paving the way for an intense week of rigorous theoretical and experimental examinations designed to challenge and celebrate the future leaders of science.

As part of the official launch of Santander Day held at Casa Santander in Bogotá, Governor Juvenal Díaz honored the President of the International Physics Olympiad, Rajdeep Singh Rawat, during a special gathering that celebrated the identity, culture and international projection of Santander.
This moment reflects the region's commitment to welcoming the world through science, education and global collaboration ahead of IPhO 2026 in Colombia.








Preparations Underway: IPhO President Tours Bucaramanga
The preparation for the 56th International Physics Olympiad is officially underway.
During his visit to Bucaramanga, IPhO President Rajdeep Singh Rawat toured key venues and hospitality spaces that will welcome students, delegations and guests from more than 95 countries in 2026.
Every step is focused on creating an international experience centered on science, culture and global collaboration.
